Although our Quilten Speciaal course is done now our group still comes together every now and than. We asked Marijke Schurink to coach us for a while. She is a professional artist and makes all kinds of jewellery of the most divergent materials (f.i. bath foam, meat). The good thing is that she is very capable in letting us know why something isn’t nice or right. For most of us that’s the main problem: we do know that something is not right but don’t always know what exactly.
During the day Marijke gives all kinds of assignments and some homework for the next time as well. The last time we where making compositions with the letters of our name and some material from newspapers and magazines. As I don’t like paper as a material to work with it made me a bit recalcitrant, it felt like kindergarten. Which lead to the ultimate thing the teacher could ask me: cut paper lace doilies. I made hundreds of them. Of course I behaved and did what was asked. These compositions where the result. As preparation for next time we where asked to play a little with composition and division.
