Just the beginning of a bag
Today something completely different. I tried free crochet for an evening but decided that it was not my thing. It looks nice but I became restive of it. It took too long to get result. The result looked nice anyway so I decided to but it on the flap of a bag.

laagland gaan,
ijle populieren
als hoge pluimen
aan den einder staan;
en in geweldige
ruimte verzonken
de boerderijen
verspreid door het land,
boomgroepen, dorpen,
geknotte torens,
kerken en olmen
in een groots verband.
De lucht hangt er laag
en de zon wordt er langzaam
in grijze veelkleurige
dampen gesmoord,
en in alle gewesten
wordt de stem van het water
met zijn eeuwige rampen
gevreesd en gehoord.
In the meantime I was busy making a quilt fot the annual show of the Dutch Quiltersguild.
The theme of the show was take a poem as source of inspiration. I live in a area with big wide rivers. There is a well known Dutch poem about these rivers. It’s from the poet Hendrik Marsman (translated by Paul Vincent). I dyed some cotton and printed some photo’s and I added organza, fibers, paint, paintstiks and a lot of stitching. Unfortunately it is not allowed to publish the quilt on a weblog before the show, so it will be published later. But the poem itself is very nice. You have to do it with that until after the show!
Memory of Holland
Thinking of Holland
I see wide-flowing rivers
slowly traversing
infinite plains,
inconceivably
rarefied poplars
like lofty plumes
on the skyline in lanes;
and submerged in the vastness
of unbounded spaces
the farmhouses
strewn over the land,
tree clumps, villages,
truncated towers,
churches and elm trees -
all wondrously planned.
the sky hangs low
and slowly the sun by
mists of all colours
is stifled and greyed
and in all the regions
the voice of the water
with its endless disasters
is feared and obeyed.

Experiment
This morning I experimented with painted tyvek, plastic gift wrap, felt en plastic bags. The result looked fine. Now I have tot think about something to make from it, otherwise my box with nice experiments will be quit pointless.

Using the stamps
Het werkt allemaal even goed.
Simple stamps are always nice to have. Did a quick test. The result is as the stamps are, simple but useful. Also tried my new transfer foil. This kind doesn’t need ironing but rubbing to come off. In the mean time I tried bookbinder’s glue, acryl medium and the glue that came with the foil. All with the same effect. Don’t know whether I can wash it.

Pink phase 2
New punch needles, new opportunities. First I punched some wool on the quilt and then I sewed fibres on. After that intensive stitching. I am not satisfied yet, so next round will be by hand. A great performance for someone who doesn’t even sew on a button by hand!

Pink again
Yesterday I began with fresh courage on my small pink quilt. Unfortunatly I broke 4 of 5 needles of the embellisher. Fed up with that! Then I made some stamps instead. A nice result after all.

Pink
And then it was time for a small project. First I sewed all kinds of pink pieces together and cut it up to pieces again. Did that a few times. Then organza flowers and some sewing. I am not satisfied with the result yet, so there will be some new layers. Who knows, maybe I will be a-small-projects-person after all.

A bit of history
In the mean time I am busy making a small quilt for my daughters room. Small is not easy for me, I like making large things. The last I made for her is a big pink quilt for her pink princess room. With that colour it caught the eye on the last show of the Dutch quilters guild. The small one has to match, so guess once what the colour would be.

Rood
Klieder quilt
Recently I purchased the book The painted quilt, written by Linda and Laura Kemshall. They often use paint after finishing quilting the top. I thought it was a bit scary to paint a quilt so I made a quilt to mess arount with. Blue is not my colour so I used my blue remainders. I also tried to paint a little, never done that before. In the end I liked the result very much, it even got a name, Sealife.
Zo, dat is gelukt
A few weeks ago I wanted to make a weblog about my textile adventures, but I didn't have the time. But, in the end I managed, as you can see.
Sure I intent to update my blog regular. Maybe this is a bit optimistic, but I'll try. Time will tell.
