Zo, hier is weer rust in de tent. Sinds dinsdag is alles weer naar school. Kan eindelijk alles dat in mijn hoofd zit gaan uitwerken. Inmiddels is het al 6 weken geleden dat de naaimachine aangestaan, het stof zit er op. Het wordt wel weer eens tijd om productie te draaien. Wel af en toe tijd gehad om te verven. Gisteren voor het eerst procion verf met verdikker gebruikt om te zeefdrukken. Is nog best lastig want als je de verf te vloeibaar hebt gaan het langs de randjes van je motief uitlopen. En als het te dik is, en daarmee dus te droog, trekt het niet goed in de vezels. Uiteindelijk wel tevreden over het resultaat. In eerste instantie was de verf niet dik genoeg. Al mijn oranje vissen hebben een gelig waasje langs de randen. Eigenlijk wel mooi. Ik heb van dezelfde vis ook een stempel gemaakt, die wil ik er nog overheen zetten. Ook een zeefdruk met tekst uitgeprobeerd. Omdat ik ondertussen al zag dat de vissen uitliepen (klinkt wel raar, uitlopende vissen) de verf op de zeefdruk gebracht met een vrij droge verfroller. Na afloop aan de achterkant van de stof een klein beetje vocht verneveld. Weet eigenlijk niet of het ook zonder extra vocht had gekund.

So, peace settled at home again. Since Tuesday all the children are back to school again. Finally I can work out everything that’s in my head already. In the mean time it is six weeks ago since I last used my sewing machine, dust all over it. Time to make some production.
I did some dyeing in the last weeks but not much. Yesterday I used procion with thickener for the first time to screen print. A bit of a tough job because when the dye is to fluid the motifs will run along the edges. When it’s to much thick it’s too dry as welll and it won’t evaporate into the fibres of the fabric. Finally I was satisfied with the result. At first the dye was too fluid and all of my orange fishes have got a yellow shimmer along the edges. But, I like it.
I made stamps of the same fish and I will put it over the screen printed fishes.
I also tested a screen print with text. Because I already noticed the colours of the fishes where flowing I applied the dye on the screen with a almost dry paint roller. For curing I sprayed some water on the back of the fabric. I don’t know if it had worked as well without the moist.

Natuurlijk weer te veel verdikte verf aangemaakt. Na het bewerken van 3 grote lappen had ik ook niet meer zo’n zin er nog veel mee te doen. Omdat er al soda in zat kon ik het niet bewaren dus toch maar even verwerkt. Het resultaat was leuker dan verwacht. Ik had twee lappen op elkaar gelegd. Verf lukraak en een beetje dik op de bovenste gesmeerd. Daarna stempels (zonder verf) in de verf gedrukt. In de bovenste lap geeft dat hele subtiele schaduwen en in de onderste lap wordt het helemaal prachtig. Je drukt de verf met het stempel dan in de onderste lap. Leuk om nog eens uitgebreid uit te proberen.

Of course I made way to much dye. After processing three large pieces of fabric I wasn’t in the mood for another piece. Because the soda ash was already in the dye solution it wasn’t possible to store it so I made another quick one. The result was nicer than expected. I put two layers of fabric on each other and spread the dye at random on the top fabric. After that I stamped with stamps without dye on the top fabric. The top fabric has got subtle shadows but the bottom fabric has became very beautiful. The dye of the top fabric is pushed through on the bottom one. I definitely going to try this again.
