Achter de feiten aanlopen / Overtaken by events

De tentoonstelling in Veldhoven is al lang weer voorbij maar tot nu toe geen tijd gehad mijn bijdrage even te laten zien. Het thema was ‘Old Masters’.  Een lap die ik een tijdje terug geverfd had vond ik net een wolkenlucht. In combinatie met het thema van de tentoonstelling inspireerde met dat tot losgaan los gaan op een plafond met engeltjes. In de collectie van het Rijksmuseum vond ik een ets van Jacob de Wit (de onderste) en op de site van Wikimedia Commons etsen van Wenceslas Hollar. De afbeeldingen vergroot en op stof geschilderd. De engeltjes op de luchtlap geappliqueerd. In Amsterdamse grachtenpanden werden dit soort panelen vaak tussen houten plafond panelen gezet. Vandaar de bruine ‘houten’ rand.

The exhibition in Veldhoven is already a long time ago but until now I haven’t had time to show my contribution on my weblog. The theme was ‘Old Masters”. A while ago I dyed a piece of fabric, which in my opinion looked as a sky with clouds. In combination with the theme of the exhibition it inspired me to go loose on a ceiling with angels. In the collection of the Amsterdam Rijksmuseum I found an etch of Jacob de Wit (the lower one) and on the site Wikimedia Commons an etches of Wenceslas Hollar. I enlarged the pictures and painted them on fabric. After that I appliqued them on the sky fabric. In the old Amsterdam canal houses this kind of panels where used in wooden or sculptured ceiling panels. So I made a brown ‘wooden’ frame around it.

Heerlijk bezig met experimenteren voor ons nieuwe boek. Het levert verrassende en prachtige lappen op.

Pffff

Ja hoor, het is officieel, mijn kamertje (atelier is een te groot woord), is vol. Als ik links iets op de plank leg valt er aan het andere eind van de kamer rechts iets van de plank af. Morgen opruimen.

And yes, it's official, my little sewing room  is stuffed with too much things. When I put something on the shelf on the left something else falls down on the right. I think I have to clean up a bit tomorrow.

En zo is de zomer weer voorbij. Vandaag ook echt officieel herfst. Goede gelegenheid om eindelijk weer eens mijn weblog bij te werken. Ik zit niet bepaald stil maar alles dat ik aan het maken was/ben is bedoeld voor wedstrijden en tentoonstellingen en mag ik dus nog niet laten zien.

Net een paar dagen in Sainte Marie doorgebracht. En niet voor niets want mijn quilt ‘ Imagine alle the people’ viel daar in de prijzen, de Prix de France Patchwork. Kicken wel. Weliswaar niet de hoofdprijs maar wel de prijs die met het meeste gejuich ontvangen werd, dankzij ons aanwezige reisgezelschap. Dat gezellige clubje (Marloes, Henriët, Marjo, Marjoleine, Marion, Marjon en Ria) zorgde ook voor champagne om de prijs te vieren. Erg leuk.

De quilt gaat voorlopig een jaartje op reis. Nu weer uitkijken naar de EOQC in Veldhoven. Daar komt ook een quilt van mij te hangen.

And than, all of a sudden, summer is over. Today officially the first day of the autumn.  A good opportunity to give some attention to my weblog. I am still busy creating all kinds of textile but everything I made this summer is for shows and competitions, so I may not show it to you all.

I just returned from the show in Sainte Marie in France. Good to make the trip because my quilt ‘ Imagine all the people’ was award winning, the Prix de France Patchwork. Nice! It wasn’t the best of show award (yet) but certainly the price with the most noise of all, thanks to my travel companions. The lovely group (Marloes, Henriët, Marjo, Marjoleine, Marion, Marjon en Ria) took care of champaign to celebrate the award. I enjoyed it very much.

 

The quilt is travelling for a year. Now I am looking forward to the OEQC in Veldhoven. I have a quilt in competition there as well.

Voortgang / Progress

Weinig actie op mijn blog maar dat betekent niet dat er hier geen actie geweest is. Voor een aantal wedstrijden en tentoonstellingen ingestuurd en dat moet natuurlijk geheim blijven.

Ook verder gewerkt aan het nieuwe boek. Heerlijk ook om foto’s te maken van onze prachtige lappen.

Not a lot of action the last few weeks, but that doesn’t mean that there wasn’t action at all. I sent in some work for competitions and shows and that should still remain a secret for a while.

We worked on our book as well. Lovely pictures from our beautiful fabric.

Voorbereiding / Preparation Karlsruhe

De voorbereidingen voor de beurs in Karlsruhe zijn in volle gang. Voornamelijk bij Janine, want naar een beurs gaan als standhouder betekent heel veel inpakwerk. Mijn deel was vooralsnog het verzorgen van het reclamemateriaal. Dat is dankzij mijn broer gelukt. Van vrijdag tot zondag gaan we proberen zoveel mogelijk van onze boeken aan de man te brengen.

The preparations for the show in Karlsruhe are going steady. Most of it is Janine’s part as going to such an event as stand holder means a lot of packing to do. My part was taking care of our advertising material. Thanks to my brother I did it. From Friday till Sunday we will try to sell as much of our books as possible. 

Wunderbar Wunderbar Wunderbarrrrr

Ja hoor, gelukkig ruim op tijd van de drukker gekomen. Over 2 weken in Karlsruhe de première van de Duitse versie van ons boek: Farbe auf Stoff.

Yes, we made it, the German version of our book came right on time from the printing service. We wil be at the Karlsruhe show with it: Farbe auf Stoff.

Duits / German

Terwijl we bezig zijn met ons nieuwe boek zijn er ook nog allerlei activiteiten rondom ons vorige boek. Het is intussen door ClaudiaHelmer vertaald in het Duits. Vandaag gaat het naar de drukker.

Janine en ik zijn aanwezig op de Nadelwelt beurs inKarlsruhe om daar ons boek te promomoten.

While we are busy working on our next book there are some activities around our first book. In the mean time it is translated in German by Claudia Helmer. Today it is off to the printing facility.

Janine and I will be at the Nadelwelt event in Karlsruhe to promote our book.

Nieuw boek / new book

Janine Wetzels (van mijn-eigen.nl) en ik zijn bezig aan ons nieuwe boek. We laten alle mogelijkheden van Drimarene en Procion fiber reactive dye langs komen. Natuurlijk moeten alle verftechnieken nauwkeurig onderzocht en uitgevoerd worden.  Hier het resultaat van breakdownprinten op zijde. Dat wappert echt prachtig.

JanineWetzels (webshop mijn-eigen.nl) and I are busy working on our new book. All you can do with Drimarene en Procion fibre reactive dye will be in. Of course we have to test and do all dyeing techniques. This is the result of breakdown printing on silk. It’s flapping in the wind beautifully.

New York I

Vorig jaar mei was ik een paar dagen (veel te kort!) in New York. Honderden foto’s gemaakt daar. Liefst midden op een weg staand. Niet altijd handig ;). Als verse nieuwe toerist natuurlijk ook een hele serie standaard foto’s geschoten. Waaronder ’s avonds op Times Square. Ik heb de foto bewerkt en afgedrukt op katoen. Daarna allerlei bijpassende stoffen geverfd.

Last May I visited New York for a few days (too short!). I made hundreds of photos. My favourite position was on the middle of the street. Not always confortable. As a fresh new tourist I made of course a whole series of standard pictures. Including one of Times Square at night. I edited the photo and printed it on cotton. I dyed several matching fabrics.
