City trip Lucca

De basis van de quilt is wel ongeveer klaar nu. Het blijft toch altijd een beetje eng om de schaar in zo’n eenmalige lap te zetten. Als het fout gaat heb je de lap niet zomaar weer terug. Ik ben ook altijd van het type die dan net per ongeluk bij het knippen een laagje te veel meeneemt. Het zelfde principe als vroeger buiten gaan spelen met nieuwe kleren aan, ik had geheid een aanvaring met het prikkerdraad. Iets nieuws ging bij mij altijd stuk.

Gelukkig is me dat deze keer bespaard gebleven, nou ja, bijna dan. Ergens zit toch een gaatje in de quilt. Even lekker dik overheen quilten maar. Zo lang ik de enige ben die het ziet is het goed.

Mijn quilt wordt een stadsplattegrond. In de breakdown stof ga ik wel de omtrek van de stadsmuren doorquilten. Het pleintje op de detail foto is het pleintje dat net boven de foto op de plattegrond staat, het Piazza dell'Anfiteatro in Lucca. Een van de mooiste pleintjes die ik ken. Denk dat je er midden in het toeristenseizoen niet moet komen maar toen wij er waren was het vrij rustig. Er komt in ieder geval nog een pijl bij te staan en de tekst ‘you are here’ en voor de rest zie ik het ondertussen wel. Ga zelfs weer een stukje met de hand doen.

The groundwork of my quilt is done. I always find it a bit scary to cut such an unique piece of fabric. Not easy to make another one of the same quality. I am the type of person who cuts the wrong way every now and than. A layer too much or something like that. It’s the same principle as when I was young. Playing outside with new cloths always let to accidents. I certainly came into collision with the barbed wire. I always ripped new cloths.

Fortunately I spared myself the trouble this time, almost than. Somewhere is a small hole in my top. It needs a bit more stitching I guess. As long as I am the only want who can find the hole it’s ok.

My quilt will be a city map. In the pieces made from the breakdown fabric I will quilt the lines of the map. The square on the photo is the square just above the photo on the map, the Piazza dell'Anfiteatro in Lucca. One of the most beautiful squares I know. I think in the middle of the tourist season it will be crowdy but when we where there it was quit peaceful.

There will be an arrow on the map as well as the text ‘you are here’, all other thing will be thought off while quilting. I will do some, but not all, of the quilting by hand.
