Woman ...

Volgende week woensdag komen we van TeXplosions weer bij elkaar. Corryna heeft de opdracht verzonnen. Vrouw. De opdracht is leuk maar een van de twee stofjes heeft een nogal nare kleur (sorry Corryna). Vooral de combinatie van de twee stofjes, licht bordeaux rood en naar groen (Nogmaals sorry Corryna, niet boos op me worden) inspireert me niet echt. Sterker nog, tot nu toe blokkeer ik onmiddellijk als ik de stofjes voor me leg. Kan je wel eens hebben. Ik heb de opdracht dus ook al maanden laten liggen. Eerst bedacht dat ik de stofjes in eerste instantie maar even zou negeren en ze dan mijn ontwerp wel zou inspitten. Idee na idee maar niet met die kleurencombinatie. Zelfs zo erg dat ik al meters stof geverfd had, gestempeld en gezeefdrukt en er toen achter kwam dat de stofjes er allebei niet bij pasten. Idee wordt dus later uitgevoerd. Met nog 10 dagen te gaan dacht ik gisteren dat ik me maar eens kwaad moest gaan maken. Kan toch niet met lege handen aankomen. En dan te bedenken dat ik over het algemeen ook nog van het groot formaat quilt ben. Onder de 80x80 komt er zelden iets uit mijn handen. Een soort halve compromis met mezelf gesloten. Besloten dat het ene stofje van meet af aan in het ontwerp opgenomen wordt en dat ik ergens onderweg wel kijk wat ik met het andere stofje doe.

Deze tekst op een lap stof geprint. Van deze lap een naakte vrouwen rug gemaakt. Inmiddels zit dit lijf links op mijn quilt. Rechts heb ik een afbeelding van een gemaskerde vrouw verwerkt. De top heb ik vanmorgen afgemaakt. Morgen doorstikken en dan moet er nog een heleboel versiering op. Gelukkig heb ik dan nog een week!

Wednesday next week the quilting group Texplosions will come together. Corryna gave us an assignment. Woman. The idea is good but one of the two accompanied fabrics has got a rather nasty colour (sorry Corryna). Especially the combination of the two fabrics, light burgundy and some ugly green (sorry again Corryna, don’t get angry on me) doesn’t inspire me at all. More than that, up until yesterday I immediately blocked even looking at the fabric. That happens sometimes. It’s all in my studio for months already. At first I thought it was best to ignore the fabric at all and put them in my design afterwards. Idea after idea but nothing with that combination of colours. Even so bad, I dyed several meters of fabric, printed, stamped and screen printed it discovering at the end that both the fabrics won’t fit in. This idea will certainly be executed later. With only 10 days to go yesterday I thought that it was best to get angry and start something. A bit odd to arrive at Corryna’s with empty hands.

Since my quilts often are of respectable size, for me a quilt starts at 80x80 cm, I should hurry. I reached a compromise with myself. I decided to include the burgundy fabric from the beginning in the design and somewhere on the go to put the greenish in.

The text is stencilled on fabric. Made the back of a woman with the fabric. In the mean time it’s on the left on my quilt. On the right is the head of a masked woman. I finished the top this morning. Tomorrow the quilting and after that a whole lot of decoration. Fortunately I still got one week by than!
